Simone Sears-Lyken
Simone is a senior Political Science major. Simone recently completed her senior research thesis for the Political Science department. She also started an organization on campus called Taking Action To Overcome Obstacles (T.A.T.O.O.), which focuses on helping students stay focused on the goals they set to complete while in college. Chloe A. Mondesir, is a graduating senior, psychology major, comparative women's studies minor, from Queens, New York. Particularly this semester, Chloe has been fortunate enough through various platforms, to ensure her legacy for Spelman, the AUC, and beyond, of healing black women to be holistically well for their communities and especially themselves. As president of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, FMLA has hosted their first annual week, consistent of a sex dialogue space, a speak out, and a partnership to support breast cancer research. As research assistant of the Sexual Health and Media lab, through the Student Health Empowerment program, Chloe has helped increase exposure to sexual health education as well as provided increased STI/HIV testing opportunities. As contributor to SheUnplugged.com, Chloe has shared experiences and commentary on everything from helping first years adjust to the Spelman climate, to bridging connectivity between suffering groups of color from Mizzou to Paris. As the My Sister's Keeper intern of the Black Women's Health Imperative, Chloe has also been able to partner with other organizations and campus leaders, to refamiliarize students of the AUC, to know their right to safety and well being. With an overall vision to empower and equip black women to possess and live with an essential sense of agency and awareness, Chloe hopes to continue to serve as an example and facilitator of unconventional but practical change for both the self and the world!
Victoria, a senior, Math major from Decatur, GA was chosen to represent the Senior Men of Morehouse as Miss Senior 2015-2016. Victoria was nominated by Kierika McFarlin. Congratulations! Continue to be great, Victoria!
